DUDLEY, MA – Thomas was able to hold on for a season-opening 3-2 victory against Nichols College in a non-conference field hockey tilt Saturday afternoon. Senior Miranda Tinsman had a goal and an assist in the winning effort.
The Terriers grabbed a 1-0 lead on Michelle Greene's unassisted marker 2:13 into the game. Amanda Broughton tied the game at one when she knocked a pass from Avery Orszulak inside the left post at 20:49.
Less than three minutes later, Tinsman put the visitors in front with a penalty stroke goal at 22:34. Her shot beat Melanson to the stick side. Hachey's marker pushed the Terriers lead to 3-1 early in the second half before Wilson's marker at 50:54 cut the deficit to one.The contest ended when Nichols failed to convert on a penalty corner as time expired.
Jasmine Bishop recorded six saves in the win, while her counterpart Melanson had 13 stops for the Bisons, who were outshot 24-15 in the loss.
Thomas continues their opening weekend Massachusetts swing traveling to Bridgewater State for a 1pm game.
