Terriers Drop a Close One to Husson

Bangor, Maine – The Thomas College field hockey team came one min short of forcing overtime with defending North Atlantic Conference champs, Husson University. The Eagles defeated the Terriers 3-2 with a last minute goal scored with 1:02 remaining on the clock. Senior Ali Kriegel led the Terriers in scoring finishing the game with a goal and an assist.

Both teams jumped off to a quick start with the Eagles (7-2, 3-1 NAC) scoring the first goal three minutes into the game. The Terriers (4-7, 2-2 NAC) struck back just 58 seconds later with goal from Kriegel, tying the game at one apiece.

At the break the scoreboard read 1-1.

Husson came out of the break firing 14 shots before finally sneaking one past Thomas goal keeper Sofia Sourgiadakis in the 58th minute.

The Terriers answered with an equalizing goal in the 67th minute from Ally Kennedy assisted by Kriegel.

The Eagles put pressure on the Sourgiadakis and the Thomas defense all night as they outshot the Terriers 25-to-5, but Sourgiadakis stood strong in the cage keeping the Terriers in the game with 11 saves against 14 shots on goal before giving up the eventual game winning goal.

The Terriers take the field again on Wednesday, October 5th at the University of Maine at Farmington.
