Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College field hockey team fell to cross-town rival Colby College 5-0, Wednesday evening in a non-conference match up. With the loss the Terriers fall to 4-6 (2-1 NAC) on the season, while Colby picks up their first win of the season improving to 1-4.
Colby had a 16-1 shot advantage in the first half, but only led 1-0 on a goal by defender Sarah Falkof, that came just 3:17 into the game.
Caroline Chessare gave the Mules some breathing room just 22 seconds into the second half when she managed to get a shot past Thomas keeper Jasmine Bishop.
Courtney Erskine scored about five minutes later at 40:12 to make it 3-0. The Mules pushed the score to 4-0 off of a Lauren Zion goal at the 60:57 mark and Caitlin Murray wrapped up the scoring for the evening five minutes later with her first collegiate goal.
Michelle Burt had to make just one save in picking up the shutout for Colby. Sofia Sourgiadakis stopped nine shots in the first half for Thomas and Bishop made six saves in the final 35 minutes.
The Terriers will resume North Atlantic Conference play of Saturday October 1st when they travel up I-95 to Bangor, Maine for a 6:00 p.m. match up with Husson.
