Henniker, N.H.—New England College forward Emily Kuchta netted two goals lifting the Pilgrims past the Thomas College Terriers 3-1 in field hockey action Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Terriers drop to 2-5 (0-1, NAC) while the Pilgrims improve to 2-4 (1-0, NAC).
NEC would open the scoring early as Emily Kuchta would put in a cross from Kate Roberge just 1:51 into the opening half. Thomas would respond as Ally Kennedy would rebound in her own shot to record her first goal of the season.
The two teams would settle down after the early scoring as they would battle through the remainder of the first half scoreless.
NEC would break the scoring drought in the 44th minute of play as Patricia Wright would net her first collegiate goal putting the Pilgrims up 2-1. Kuchta would give the Pilgrims some breathing room late as she would put in her second goal of the afternoon off a rebound in the 53rd minute.
The Pilgrims finished the game out shooting the Terriers 31-12.
Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Mary Roux who recorded 10 saves. Having an impressive game in net for Thomas was Sofia Sourgiadakis who made an impressive 20 saves on the afternoon.
The Terriers will take to the field next Saturday September 24th when they play host to LaSalle in a North Atlantic Conference match up at 12 p.m.
