Field Hockey Falls in Season Opener

Waterville, Maine—The Terriers fell in their season opener today in a non-conference game against North Atlantic Conference foe Husson, 6- 0.  Sophomore Goal Keeper Sofia Sourgiadakis made 14 saves on 21 shots, letting in only two goals.  With the loss, the Terriers fall to 0-1, (0-0 NAC) and Husson improves to 1-0 (0-0 NAC).

The Eagles' first goal was scored by Mariah Arno at 15:29 off of a corner, assisted by Melissa Souza.  The Eagles would strike again at 22:48 with a goal by Kara Poirier.  Thomas' defense was able to slow a relentless Husson attack for the remainder of the half keeping the score at 2-0.

Kajsa Blindow got the Eagles going in the second half when she found the back of the goal at the 44:18 mark pushing their lead to 3-0.  At 50:08, Poirier scored again with an unassisted goal for the Eagles.  Casey Pray would strike twice for the Eagles, once at 54:16 and again at 60:30; ending the scoring for the game.

Senior Brittany Moore fired two shots on goal.   Junior Miranda Tinsman and first year Katrina Thibodeau both had one shot on goal.  First year Brittany Premo stood out with a solid performance, controlling the ball on almost every Thomas attack.

The Terriers will resume play this weekend at Nichols College, Saturday, September 3rd at 1 p.m. in a non-conference match up.  Thomas will also play another non-conference match at noon on Sunday, September 4th at West Connecticut State College.
