PITTSTON, Pa. – The Thomas College men's hockey team made the program's first appearance in the ACHA Division 3 Atlantic Regional Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers fell to New Haven 6-3 to bow out of the tournament.
Thomas took the lead first, with Jaymen Swygert (Summerville, S.C.) netting a goal five minutes in. The Chargers scored three unanswered in the final 15 of the first to take a 4-1 lead into the intermission.
Thomas came out strong in the second, potting two goals in the first 2:14. Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) scored the first for Thomas followed by Cameron Bigelow (West Gardiner, Maine) 21 seconds later to pull it to 4-3. New Haven got one back at the 13:20 mark and held the lead through the second intermission.
Thomas, who outshot New Haven 51-22 on the night) continued to control the pace of play in the third but were unable to get one through despite numerous chances, including a 5-on-3 power play late in the period. The Chargers tacked on an empty net goal in the final seconds to come away with the 6-3 win.
Miloslav Fuksa (Czech Republic) took the loss in net for the Terriers.
