HALLOWELL, Maine – The Thomas College ice hockey team erased a two-goal, third period lead for the second game in a row to defeat Worchester Polytechnic Institute 6-5 on Saturday evening at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
Michael Deveaux (Brunswick, Maine) punched in a rebound to give the Terriers the first goal of the game. WPI quickly answered to tie the game at 1-1. Midway through the period the Goats took the lead with another goal and the first period ended at 2-1.
WPI notched another goal in the early minutes of the second period to extend their advantage to 3-1. Hunter Hughes (Lewiston, Maine) answered with a goal shortly after to pull Thomas back within one at 3-2. The Goats found the goal again in the final minutes of the second and the Terriers trailed 4-2 at the second intermission.
Justin Wentworth (China, Maine) beat the goaltender's glove to bring Thomas back within one again, 4-3. WPI added another goal and extended their lead by two once again, 5-3. Rajhan Munnings (Providenciales, Turks and Caicos) lit the lamp and ignited a three-goal scoring barrage. Cameron Bigelow (West Gardiner, Maine) evened the game at 5-5 while William Heywood (Yarmouth, Maine) scored the winning goal at the 3:25 mark, making it a 6-5 final.
Tom Green (Biddeford, Maine) played outstanding between the pipes and earned the win in goal for Thomas.
During the second intermission, Matthew Deveaux (Brunswick, Maine) and Green were recognized as during a senior day ceremony celebrating their contributions to the program.
Thomas will host their regular season finale against the University of New England on Sunday, February 9 for a 5:30 PM game at the Ice Vault.
