HALLOWELL, Maine – The Thomas College ice hockey team overcame a two-goal third period deficit to defeat Central Maine Community College 4-3 on Wednesday evening at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
CMCC scored the first two goals of the game and took a 2-0 lead deep into the first. Thomas cut the lead in half with 35 seconds to go when Hunter Hughes (Lewiston, Maine) lit the lamp to send the teams into the first intermission with a score of 2-1. The Mustangs scored the lone goal of the second to extend their lead back to two with a 3-1 edge.
Thomas Arps (Monmouth, Maine) sparked the comeback for Thomas, cutting the Mustangs' lead to 3-2 with 12 minutes to go. Jaymen Swygert (Summerville, S.C.) notched the tying goal just over two minutes later to make it 3-3. Both sides earned man advantage opportunities down the stretch, but the Terriers tallied the game-winner on an even strength goal by Arps with just over two minutes remaining in the game to take the 4-3 victory.
Tom Green (Biddeford, Maine) took the win in net for the Terriers.
Thomas will host the University of New England on Friday, February 7 at 9:00 PM at the Ice Vault.
