HKY: Strong Third Pushes Terriers Past Maine

ORONO, Maine – The Thomas College ice hockey team defeated the University of Maine club team 7-5 in an ACHA game on Sunday evening at Alfond Arena.

The Black Bears picked up the only goal of the first period, then extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second. The Terriers cut the lead back to one with a goal by Alex Berard (Winslow, Maine) off a feed from Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine). Thomas tied it up just 53 seconds later when Benjamin MacLennan (Portland, Maine) found the back of the net. The Terriers took the lead with just under nine to go in the second when Tito Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine) found Justin Wentworth (China, Maine) to go ahead 3-2. Maine tied it back up heading into the second intermission, making it 3-3 with four minutes left in the period.

After Maine took back the lead early in the third, Thomas scored four unanswered to pull ahead 7-4. MacLennan got his second of the game off an assist from Ryan Ambrozy (Athol, Mass.), then Rajhan Munnings (Cape Coral, Fla.) put Thomas ahead less than a minute later off a dish from Sam Haver. Wentworth picked up his second of the night with an assist from Zach Gagne (Augusta, Maine) before Haver made it 7-4 with nine to go. The Black Bears scored once more late in the period, but the Terriers held on for the 7-5 win.

Tom Green (Biddeford, Maine) earned the win in net for the Terriers.


Thomas will return to action on Saturday, December 8th when they host Colby-Sawyer at 7:40 PM at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
