AUBURN, Maine – The Thomas College club ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 heartbreaking loss in overtime to Central Maine Community College on Sunday afternoon in American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) play.
The Mustangs got on the board late in the first period as Patrick Pearson put his team up 1-0 on a setup from Jordin Eurenius.
The Terriers responded midway through the second frame as Gagne knotted the game up on a feed from Storey.
In the final period, Thomas took their first lead of the game at the 1:23 mark as Tim McDermott tallied a power play from Gagne. Just under two minutes later, Jordy Knoren answered for CMCC with a marker to tie the game up at 2-2. The Terriers took the lead once again at 8:09 as Naranja recorded his lone goal of the game. The Mustangs would not go away in the final four minutes as Zachary Savage made it a 3-3 game with a shorthanded goal, sending the contest into overtime.
CMCC went to work quickly in extra time and scored in 47 seconds on an unassisted goal from Drake Goupil.
Tom Green shouldered the tough loss in goal for Thomas while Jonathan Look earned the victory for the Mustangs.
Thomas will be on the road back-to-back days this weekend for two crucial conference games against WPI and the University of New England.
