Terriers and Engineers Battle to 3-3 Tie

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College club ice hockey team played to a 3-3 tie at home against Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on Friday night at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault as part of senior night.

Thomas broke open the scoring at the nine minute mark of the first as Zach Gagne put his team up 1-0 on a feed from Ben Wheeler.

Later on in the second period, the Terriers added another goal as Ryan Ambrozy scored on an assist from Matthew Deveaux.  The Engineers cut the deficit in half before the second intermission as Colby Gilbert made it a 2-1 game.

WPI took control early in the final period as Peter Hurley and Gilbert tallied back-to-back markers in three minutes to go up 3-2.  With six seconds remaining, freshman Ryley Austin saved the Terriers as his wrist shot beat the Engineer goalie to tie the game up at 3-3.

In the overtime frame, both teams failed to capitalize as the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Michael Small made 41 saves and allowed all three goals before being relieved by Tom Green in the third period.  Green stopped all 18 shots in the third and overtime frame.  Matthew Hill went the distance for WPI and made 54 saves.

The Terriers will hit the road on Sunday, January 28 as they face CMCC for a 6:30 p.m. game at Norway Savings Bank Arena.
