HALLOWELL, Maine – The Thomas College club ice hockey team scored five goals in the second period to defeat Saint Joseph's College (Maine), 7-2, in an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) contest on Saturday night at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
The Terriers sweep the season series with the Monks, moving to 4-5 while Saint Joseph's falls to 2-5.
Thomas took advantage of a power play opportunity with seven minutes left in the first period as freshman Ryley Austin (Lisbon, Maine) put the Terriers up 1-0 on a feed from Blondin. Just over a minute later, the Monks answered with a goal of their won from Brandon Truax. Blondin put Thomas back on top at 2-1 before the end of the first with a shorthanded goal.
The Terriers exploded for five straight markers in the second period to open up to a 7-1 lead. Blondin opened the period with his second shorthanded goal followed by three consecutive goals from Naranja. Blondin added his third in the remaining seconds of the period to finish the scoring for Thomas.
The Monks were able to tack on one more goal in the final frame as Brendan Martin ended the game at 7-2.
Senior Michael Small (Brentwood, N.H.) earned the victory in goal for the Terriers while Matt Burnham took the loss for the Monks.
The Terriers will play at home again on Thursday, January 25 as they host Bates at 8:40 p.m.
