GORHAM, Maine – The Thomas College club ice hockey team defeated Saint Joseph's College (ME), 10-7, for their first victory of the season in an American Collegiate Hockey Association contest on Saturday night at USM Ice Arena.
The Monks went to work early as they tallied two quick goals in the first 1:18 of play on goals from Tyler Johnson and Jeff Comeau. The Terriers responded with three straight goals from Alex Lawson (Hockessin, Del.) on the power play, Zach Gagne (Augusta, Maine), and Tito Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine) to take a 3-2 lead. Late in the period, Brandon Truax tied the game up for Saint Joes before Ryan Ambrozy (Athol, Mass.) put the Terriers back on top before the end of the first.
Thomas extended their lead just 51 seconds in to the second period as Matt Jolicoeur (Oakland, Maine) notched a power play marker from Matthew Deveaux (Brunswick, Maine). At the end of the frame, the Monks scored three unanswered goals including a buzzer beater from Marshall Berninghausen and two more from Johnson to complete the hat trick.
The Terriers once again added three unanswered goals to open the third period on two from Colby Blondin (Colchester, Vermont) and Jolicoeur's second of the game. Three minutes later, the Monks brought the score to 8-7 on a goal from Truax. The Terriers pulled away later on in the period as Ryley Austin (Lisbon, Maine) scored his first collegiate goal and Blondin completed the hat trick to finish at 10-7.
Jolicoeur finished with two goals and three assists for five points on the night.
The Terriers will have a break until their next game on Friday, December 1 against the University of New England.
