AUGUSTA, ME – The Thomas College club hockey team dropped a 9-3 decision to Central Maine Community College on Friday night in an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) matchup at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
In the loss, the Terriers drop to 3-4 (3-1 Colonial) on the year while the Mustangs stay hot at 9-3 overall. Kevin Knight and Matthew Poulin each finished with a hat trick for CMCC while senior Jason Dicey notched two goals and an assist for Thomas.
The Mustangs got on the board early at the 4:17 mark as Poulin notched his first of the game on an assist from Caleb LaBrie to give their team a 1-0 advantage throughout the first period.
Thomas responded at 7:16 of the second period as Christo Naranja tied the game up on assists from Dicey and Danita Storey. CMCC cranked up their offense with four straight goals from Kinight, Jordy Knoren, Charlie Campagna, and Dylan Farrell-Reny to finish the period with a 5-1 lead.
The Terriers looked to claw their way back as Dicey netted two quick goals to open the third, bringing the score to 5-3. Just three minutes later, Knight extended the Mustang lead with his second goal of the night. In the final minutes, Poulin netted two empty net goals while Knight added his third to finish the scoring at 9-3.
Michael Small was given the loss in goal for the Terriers while Kenny Miller earned the victory for the Mustangs.
The Terriers will travel to the University of Maine on Thursday, January 26, as they face the Black Bears club program at 8:45 p.m.
