WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas ice hockey team could not quite take advantage of opportunities, going 0 for 9 on the power play in a 6-4 loss to Springfield on Sunday evening from Smead Arena. Freshman Alexander Nadeau led the way for the Terriers with two goals.
Thomas (2-3-1) fell behind 2-1 in the first period, as the Pride got goals from Dan Chicoine and Travis Price. Junior Jason Dicey scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season on an assist from Bryce Lamontagne.
In the second period, the Terriers were again outscored 2-1 as Chicoine notched his second goal for Springfield. Nadeau would net his first of the game to get Thomas back within a goal at 3-2, but Dan Gardner would score with less than eight minutes remaining in the period to give the Pride a 4-2 lead at the end of two periods.
Springfield would take on two early goals in the third period as Brian Dunn and Nate Farrington scored within the first five minutes to extend the lead to 6-2.
Thomas would make it close as senior Garron LaFountain and Nadeau would score goals within two minutes of each other to close the gap to 6-4 with just under 10 minutes to play, but the score would hold to the final buzzer.
The Terriers next take the ice on Saturday, December 6 when they host Western Connecticut State University at 1:40pm from Sukee Arena.
