WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas was unable to extend their winning streak to four games, falling to Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 10-4, in an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) contest on Saturday afternoon.
WPI jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opening period, with goals coming from Anthony Mikelonis at 12:59, and then Kevin Rullman put the visitors up by two with seconds remaining in the first.
Thomas was able to even the score however in the second period, with goals coming from Tyler Harnden, assisted by Eric Morin, then Michael Hersom even the score at two apiece with a feed from Matt Letellier from behind the net.
The Terriers took their only lead of the day less than a minute into the third, as Garron LaFountain beat the Engineer's keeper, assisted by Bryce Lamontagne and Letellier. WIP responded minutes later to even the score, then proceeded on a 4-0 run to take a 6-3 lead. The hosts didn't give up, tallying a score at 7:17 from Morin. The eventual victors proceeded on yet another 4-0 run to take the contest 10-4.
Thomas returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 28 as they take on archrival University of Maine at Farmington. Puck drop set for 9:40pm.
