HENNIKER, NH – Thomas College could not contain New England College, falling to them 10-4 in a non-conference ice hockey contest on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Terriers fall to 3-5 on the season.
The Pilgrims took an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice within the first two minutes of competition. NEC would have possession in the attacking zone for the majority of the first period, but the Terrier defense held the hosts to just two goals.
The away side responded at the 2:59 mark of the second when Garron LaFountain found the back of the twine on a feed from Eric Morin and Alex Lawson to cut the deficit to 2-1. NEC however, answered with four unanswered goals in a three minute span to pull the lead to 6-1 midway through the second. Thomas cut the lead to 6-2 off the stick of Michael Hersom, assisted by Matt Letellier and Cody LeBlanc.
The Pilgrims proceeded on a three goal run, extending their lead to 9-2 in the closing stanza. Both teams would exchange goals in the third period, ending the game at the 10-4 score.
Hersom led the Terriers with two goals in the losing effort, while Tanner Brooks suffered the loss in net with 28 saves.
Thomas returns to the ice on Wednesday as they travel to University of New England at 6pm.
