WATERVILLE, ME – The 2013-14 season looks to be very promising for the Thomas College ice hockey team, which will begin its first season as a member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). With an influx of first-year talent and experienced returners, the squad will look to compete immediately in their inaugural season in the ACHA.
Returning juniors Garron LaFountain and Eric Morin lead a talented group of returning forwards who will play a pivotal role in the Terriers attack. Freshman Michael Hersom, Bryce Lamontagne, Kyle Mangin, and Tom Proux will make an immediate impact with their abilities to put the puck in the net and the ability to be game changers.
Captains Timothy Bradford and Daniel Collins will anchor the defensive line, while providing a veteran presence to a young team. Look for rookies Derek Driscoll and Alex Lawson to add much-needed size and physicality to the back end.
Newcomers Conner Blair and Tanner Brooks have impressed Coach TJ Garske with their play and incredible quickness and reaction time to see the puck. They both push each other and are true competitors that should be a force between the pipes. Returning net minder Dakota Gendreau provides depth in the position and continues to improve his skills and mentor the young goalie corps.
"We are very excited to be joining the ACHA this season and add a new element to an already great tradition of ice hockey at Thomas," says Coach Garske. "We were very fortunate with the talent that came in this season that adds to the already competitive team we had in place."
The Terriers will kick off the 2013-14 season on the road on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Saint Joseph's College. Puck drop is set for 8:20pm. Thomas was defeated by the Monks last season 8-7 on a last minute tally by SJC in the season opener.
