BANGOR, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team swept a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday night.
GAME 1: NVU-Lyndon 3, Thomas 9
Lyndon opened the scoring in the second, plating a run to make it 1-0. The Terriers answered in the bottom of the third with a four-run inning, including an Alexander Miller (Brandon, Fla.) RBI single. The Hornets made it a one-run gam when they scored two runs in the fifth, but Thomas answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the innings, led by a two-run single by Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine). The Terriers chipped on one more in the sixth to take the 9-3 victory.
Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) earned the win for Thomas, allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Ryan Juriewich (Medway, Maine) earned a four-inning save, allowing no hits while striking our four.
GAME 2: NVU-Lyndon 4, Thomas 14
After four scoreless innings, Lyndon got on the board with two runs in the fifth. Thomas answered right back, erupting for nine runs in the bottom of the inning. Thomas took advantage of Lyndon errors, with RBI hits coming from Kappelmann, John Villanueva (Gray, Maine), Bradly Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) and Miller. Thomas picked up five more in the sixth, with runs driven in by Miller and Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass.), while Lyndon added two late ones in the seventh to make it a 14-4 final.
Dean Jackman (Hallowell, Maine) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits in 4.2 innings of work.
The Terriers will host NVU-Lyndon for the second half of their weekend series on Sunday, April 28 at 12:00 PM on H. Allen Ryan Field.
