WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team split a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader with UMaine-Farmington on Friday afternoon at H. Allen Ryan Field.
GAME 1: Thomas 9, UMF 4
Thomas got on the board in the first with a Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) triple bringing a run in to score to make it 1-0. UMF answered in the bottom of the third with two runs, then tacked on two more in the fourth to go ahead 4-1. After Thomas got one back in the fifth, the Terriers regained the lead in the sixth with four runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Bradly Smith (Ellsworth, Maine). Thomas scored three more in the eighth, capped by a Roberto Duran (San Diego, Calif) two-run single, to give Thomas the 9-4 victory.
Dean Jackman (Hallowell, Maine) earned the win, pitching four innings of scoreless relief and allowing two hits with five strikeouts.
GAME 2: Thomas 1, UMF 3
The Beavers scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to gain a 3-0 lead. The Terriers bats came alive in the seventh, loading the bases with no outs. Smith stepped in and belted a single up the middle to score one and make it 3-1. The Terriers were unable to bring in the equalizer, though, as UMF got out of the inning to take the win.
Jacob Lacroix took the loss for Thomas, allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Thomas will host UMF for their second NAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 PM.
