WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team walked off twice to take a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games over UMaine-Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1: UMPI 1, Thomas 2 (10 Innings)
After three scoreless innings, the Owls got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth. Thomas knotted it back up in the bottom of the fifth when Dominic Esposito (Portland, Maine) scored on an error. The score stayed tied until the bottom of the tenth when Alexander Miller (Brandon, Fla.) poked a drive to right that brought the winning run in for the walk off.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) pitched an outstanding ten innings to earn the complete game win. He scattered seven hits and surrendered a walk and one run.
GAME 2: UMPI 3, Thomas 4
Thomas went up early with a two-run single by Tyler Gee (Falmouth, Maine) giving Thomas a 2-0 lead in the second. UMPI used a three-run sixth to pull ahead, leaving Thomas down 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. After a one-out double by Miller got it started, Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) knocked him in with a single to tie the game 3-3. Gleason advanced to second on a groundout to set up Nicholas Cousins (Wells, Maine) with two outs. Cabrera hit a slicing fly ball to right that made it past the diving outfielder, bringing Gleason in to score the game winner.
Dean Jackman (Hallowell, Maine) pitched five innings to start for Thomas, allowing two runs on five hits. Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass.) pitched two hitless innings in relief to earn the win for Thomas.
Thomas will host UMPI for another set of NAC games on Sunday, April 14 at 12:00 PM at Colby College.
