BANGOR, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team split a doubleheader with Husson in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener on Thursday afternoon.
GAME 1: Husson 5, Thomas 2
After three scoreless innings, Husson got on the board with two runs in the top of fourth. Thomas answered back in the bottom of the inning with a Nick Bagley (Hancock, Maine) RBI single. The Eagles extended their lead with runs in the fifth and sixth to make it 4-1. Thomas got one back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double by Connor Rittenhouse (Dover, N.H.) that cut the lead to 4-2. Thomas was unable to narrow the lead, as Husson added another run in the ninth to take the 5-2 win.
Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) look the loss for Thomas, allowing four runs on 10 hits in six innings of work. Quinton Stebbins (Farmingdale, Maine) pitched two hitless innings in the seventh and eighth, striking out two.
GAME 2: Husson 1, Thomas 2
Thomas scored their two runs in the bottom of the first when Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) drove in a pair with a triple left center. Thomas starter Ryan Scepansky (Blandon, Pa.) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit on two strikeouts. Dean Jackman (Hallowell, Maine) earned the win, pitching a scoreless fourth, while Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) and Cody Cousins (Wells, Maine) each threw scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth. Dominic Esposito (Portland, Maine) earned the save working the ninth inning and allowing one run.
Thomas will host UMaine-Presque Isle in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 at 1:30 PM at Colby College.
