WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Thomas College baseball team fell to DePauw and Williams in a pair of games on Wednesday.
GAME 1: DePauw 5, Thomas 1
The teams were scoreless through the first five innings, before DePauw got on the board with four runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to go up 5-0. The Terriers got one in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double by Alexander Miller (Brandon, Fla.), but Thomas was unable to mount the comeback and fell 5-1.
Dean Jackman (Hallowell, Maine) pitched six innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Bradly Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) and Chandler Moran (Gardiner, Maine) each pitched scoreless innings in relief for Thomas.
GAME 2: Williams 13, Thomas 3
After Williams got the 1-0 lead in the first, Thomas evened it up in the bottom of the second when Connor Rittenhouse (Dover, N.H.) scored on a ground out to tie it 1-1. Williams had a six-run inning in the third, then added another two in the fifth and one in the seventh to go up 10-1. Thomas scored twice in the seventh, with Rittenhouse scoring on a bases-loaded walk and Roberto Duran (San Diego, Calif.) coming in on a fielder's choice. Williams scored three more times to take the 13-3 win.
Ryan Jurgiewich (Medway, Maine) took the loss for Thomas, allowing seven runs (two earned) on five hits in 2.1 innings.
Thomas will play their final games of their Florida trip on Thursday, March 28 with a doubleheader against Kalamazoo starting at 10:00 AM.
