AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Thomas College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Hope College on Tuesday afternoon.
GAME 1: Hope 12, Thomas 5
Hope hopped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, with Thomas getting one back in the opening half when a Roberto Duran (San Diego, Calif.) bases loaded walk brought Nick Bagley (Hancock, Maine) in to score. The teams traded runs in the second, with Thomas' run coming on another bases loaded walk by Bagley.
Hope opened it up in the third, scoring five runs to go up 9-2. After Thomas added one in the fourth, the Terriers tacked on two more in the fifth on RBI hits by Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) and Bagley. Hope got those runs back in the seventh and went on to the 12-5 win.
Sam Balke got the win in relief for Hope, throwing three innings and allowing three runs. Cody Cousins (Wells, Maine) was tagged with the loss, allowing nine runs on 11 hits.
GAME 2: Thomas 0, Hope 3
Both teams' bats cooled in the second game, combining for just five hits in the game. Hope picked up one run in the second, third and fourth to go up 3-0.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) was able to get out of trouble with minimal damage in each of his four innings pitched, while taking the loss. Quinton Stebbins (Farmingdale, Maine) and Dominic Esposito (Portland, Maine) each pitched one hitless inning in relief.
The Terriers will take on Farmingdale State at 10:00 AM in Kissimmee, Fla.
