WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team split a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) twinbill with UMaine-Farmington on Thursday night at Colby College, winning game one, 3-2, and falling in game two, 6-0.
Game 1: Thomas 3, UMF 2
The Terriers took a quick 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a RBI single from Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass.). The Beavers responded with a run in the third and fifth to take a 2-1 advantage on a Tyler Flayhan ground out and a RBI single by Riley Chickering.
Thomas rallied in the bottom half of the fifth as Dominic Esposito (Portland, Maine) doubled in Tristan Pena (Portland, Texas) to tie the game. The Terriers regained the lead and finished the scoring at 3-2 as John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) scored on a passed ball.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) earned his fourth win of the season on the mound in a complete game, scattering nine hits and two runs. Nate Pushard shouldered the loss for UMF in five innings, six hits, and three runs (two earned).
Game 2: UMF 6, Thomas 0
The Beavers offense went to work in the second inning, bringing across four runs. Singles from Kevin Carter and Chase Malloy along with a double by Flayhan led the way. Flayhan brought in two more runs in the fifth to end at 6-0.
Gavin Arsenault silenced the Terriers in seven innings of work, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out ten. Thomas starter Matt Rutherford (Saco, Maine) threw 1.1 innings, giving up four hits and four runs.
The Terriers will hit the road tomorrow, April 27 as they travel to Colby-Sawyer.
