WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team dropped back-to-back North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games to the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Colby College.
The Beavers earned a 4-0 win in game one followed by a 6-2 win in game two. UMF moves to 7-14 (4-8 NAC) while the Terriers drop their sixth straight matchup at 3-23 (1-11 NAC).
Game 1: UMF 4, Thomas 0
The Beavers plated three runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Jimmy Parks singled in Jake Bessey followed by a two-run homerun by Chase Malloy. UMF added one more run in the fourth on a fielder's choice from Bessy to score Lockhart.
Ryan Pratt went the distance for the Beavers in the win, allowing three hits and no runs. Dominic Esposito (Portland, Maine) allowed seven hits and four runs for the Terriers in the loss. Ryan Scepansky (Blandon, Pa.) threw three innings in relief, surrendering one hit.
Game 2: UMF 6, Thomas 2
UMF capitalized on Thomas errors in the third and fifth to score five unearned runs. Thomas added a pair of runs from Alex Curtis (Monmouth, Maine) and Esposito in the sixth to make it a 5-2 game. The Beavers tacked on another unearned run in bottom of the frame to finish at 6-2.
Gavin Arsenault threw a complete game in the win for UMF, scattering five hits and two runs. Cody Cousins (Wells, Maine) shouldered the loss, giving up four hits and six unearned runs while striking out six.
