AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Thomas College baseball team allowed 14 hits in a 14-2 loss to St. Thomas (Minn.) on Sunday morning at Lake Myrtle Park.
The Terriers fall down to 2-7 on the year while the Tommies improve to 2-6.
St. Thomas took an early 5-0 lead over the first four innings until the Terriers cut the lead to three with two runs in the top of the fifth on sacrifice fly from Antonio Martinez (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Tyler Gee (Falmouth, Maine) scoring on an error.
The Tommies offense took over from there bringing across eight answered runs to finish the 14-2 victory.
John Spainer earned the win for St. Thomas in five innings, three hits, and two unearned runs.
Matt Rutherford (Saco, Maine) shouldered the loss for the Terriers in 4.2 innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs (seven earned).
The Terriers will play two nine-inning games on Monday against Union (N.Y.) and crosstown rival Colby.
