WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team is joining Mount Merici Academy and the Grace Birch Community Alliance to volunteer at the Day of Thanks event held at H. Allen Ryan Field on the campus of Thomas College.
The event will begin on Saturday, September 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., celebrating the start of the 2017-2018 school year while honoring Maine's First Responders! The event has first responders from over 20 municipal departments along with all their gear! The children will travel the bases of the baseball diamond, hearing Otto Von Schnoodle's newest story, Otto's Neighborhood Heroes, while meeting police, fire & rescue personnel. Otto Von Schnoodle and his friend, Sparky the Firedog will be there, to take pictures and give autographs! The children will learn about 911 while exploring fire engines, ladder trucks, police Cars and rescue vehicles. We have balloons, face painting, refreshments, a smoke trailer and possibly a helicopter!
Also, the Thomas College Baseball teams are offering baseball clinics the day of the event. They are giving of their time to ensure children have a positive experience and understand the importance of reading and learning.
The Grace Birch Community Alliance travels the country promoting literacy, self-esteem and sense of community to children of all ages.
