Cousins Pitches Gem as Terriers Split Twin Bill with UMF

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team split a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader with UMaine Farmington, falling 10-6 in game one and winning 2-0 in game two on Thursday afternoon.

The Beavers move to 5-22 overall and 5-13 in conference play while the Terriers move to 4-30-1 overall and 4-16 in the NAC.

UMF 10, Thomas 6

The Beavers tallied a total of 10 hits on the day with nine RBI's. Trever Hisler went 2-4 with four RBI's, two runs and a homerun to left field. Derek Bowen went 3-4 with two RBI's, two runs and a homerun to right field. Taylor Lockhart went 1-3 with two RBI's while Jimmy Parks went 1-4 with an RBI.

Mark Leahy started for the Beavers, going 2.1 innings, giving up five hits, six runs with three of them bring earned. Brett Elliott made his season debut, throwing one inning while Ryan Pratt was awarded the win after throwing 3.2 innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Matt Rutherford (Saco, Maine) started for the Terriers, throwing 5.2 innings, giving up nine hits, eight earned runs with two walks and a strikeout. Thomas Paola (Bar Harbor, Maine) came in an did not record an out, giving up two runs, one earned with a walk. Rett Adams (Atlanta, Ga.) came in for the final out of the sixth, giving up one hit.

Grant Corbett (Manchester, N.H.) went 1-3 with three RBI's, including a two-run homerun in the top of the third to give Thomas a 6-5 lead.  Tristan Pena (Portland, Texas) went 2-4 with a run scored.  Isaiah Arana (Orlando, Fla.), Alex Curtis (Monmouth, Maine), and Antonio Martinez (Coral Springs, Fla.) each had an RBI in the effort.

Thomas 2, UMF 0

Gavin Arsenault started for the Beavers, going 5.1 innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs with a walk and six strikeouts. Chase Mallow threw 1.2 innings, only walking one. Trevor Hisler, Mark Leahy, Derek Bowen and Riley Chickering each had a hit for UMF.

Cody Cousins (Wells, Maine) earned his first collegiate victory on the mound for the Terriers, going all seven innings, giving up four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Terriers tallied six hits, Adams went 1-2 with an RBI while Corbett went 1-3 with an RBI.  Thomas added their first run in the top of the fourth on single from Adams to plate Kyle Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine).  Corbett brought in the second run in the following inning as his sacrifice fly to center scored Pena.

The Terriers will host a four-game home series on Saturday and Sunday against Colby-Sawyer.  Saturday's game will be the Rebecca Kane dedication games for Thomas followed by senior day on Sunday.
