WINTER HAVEN, Florida – The Thomas College baseball team dropped a 3-2 loss in extra innings to Carleton on Wednesday at Chain of Lakes Field.
Junior Kyle Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine / Monmouth) got the ball for the Terriers, shutting out the Knights in the first five innings, allowing five hits.
The Terriers got on the board in the top of the third as Isaiah Arana (Orlando, Fla. / Timber Creek) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Rett Adams (Atlanta, Ga. / Druid Hills) after Adams reached on an error.
Carleton tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single from Logan Crowl to score Ben Frerichs. They added another run in the seventh to take a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly from Wilson Battle.
The Terriers responded in the top half of the next frame as Derek LeBlanc (Madison, Maine / Madison) led off with a single. LeBlanc made his way to third base on a sacrifice bunt and a ground out, eventually scoring on a wild pitch, tying the game up at 2-2.
Thomas had a chance in the top of the ninth as Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass. / Foxborough) hit a pinch hit single and moved over on a sacrifice bunt from Hank Vinall (Blue Hill, Maine / George Stevens Academy). With a runner in scoring position, the Terriers struck out and grounded out to end the inning.
After six strong innings from Fletcher, Payton Kennison (Livermore, Maine / Cony) came in relief and into extra innings. Errors were costly in extras as two miscues put runners in scoring position and allowed the Knights to score for a walk-off win.
The Terriers will return to action on Friday, March 24 as they face St. Joseph's (Maine) in a doubleheader at Chain of Lakes Field.
