WATERVILLE, Maine --- Thomas College baseball players Derek Kane and Dominic Esposito were recognized by the North Atlantic Conference for their play during the last week. Kane, a senior first baseman, was named NAC Player of the Week, while Esposito, who splits time between catcher and pitcher, claimed NAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Player of the Week - Derek Kane, Thomas (Sr., 1B/P - Natick, Mass.)
Kane hit .440 (11-of-25) with three doubles, two triples, eight RBI and nine runs scored as Thomas went 4-4 in eight games in Florida last week. The senior hit safely in all eight games and recorded three multi-hit games. In a 15-9 win over Loras, Kane tallied two hits, three runs, one double, and three RBI. He then recorded one double, one triple, two RBI and two runs in a 6-3 win over Grove City. In Thomas' four-game conference series split with Castleton, he hit .455 (5-for-11) as he tallied four runs, two RBI, one double, and one triple. In a 4-3 win over the Spartans, he hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the first inning to help the Terriers take a 3-2 lead
Pitcher of the Week - Dominic Esposito, Thomas (Jr., C/P - Portland, Maine)
Esposito made two appearances in Thomas' conference-opening series against Castleton, picking up a win and a save, while not giving up a hit or a walk. The junior earned a 4-3 win in the series opener, pitching 2 1/3 innings in relief, while facing seven batters and striking out a pair. He also earned the save in a 2-1 win over the Spartans, after pitching 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief with two strikeouts. in over Lawrence and added two hits in a tough 8-7 loss to Buffalo State. Colpack also finished the week with a .441 on-base percentage and a .464 slugging percentage.
The Terriers, currently 5-9 overall and 2-2 in NAC play, face Keuka at 10 a.m. Tuesaday to close their spring trip.
