Thomas Falls in Regular Season Finale to Saint Joseph's

STANDISH, ME - The Thomas baseball team fell to Saint Joseph's College 9-1 in a nine inning contest on Tuesday afternoon. Anree Benitez had two hits for the Terriers on the day.

Thomas concludes the regular season with an overall record of 16-20, and had already clinched a third-place finish in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) with a 14-10 mark. The Monks improve to 24-14 on the season.

The Terriers got the lead in the top of first, as Matt Romandetti doubled to left field and Joe Quinlan came in to score from third to take the 1-0 lead.

Thomas held the lead until the third inning, when the Monks plated two runs with one RBI each from Lincoln Sanborn and Joe Coyne. 

Saint Joseph's distanced themsevles in the next inning, going for five runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Four different Monk batters collected RBI in the five-run fourth.

The Monks would add two more in the seventh and close out the Terriers for the 9-1 win. Starter Matt Wojciak went six innings to record the win for Saint Joseph's, striking out 12 Terriers on the day.

Matt Rutherford took the loss for Thomas, going three innings and giving up three hits, two earned runs with one strikeout. Peyton Kennison, Rett Adams, Dominic Esposito and Derek Kane all made appearances on the mound.

The Terriers will now look forward to the NAC Tournament, where they will open with Husson on Friday, May 1 at 2:30 PM. The double-elimination tournament will be held at regular-season champion, the Castleton Spartans.
