AUBURNDALE, FL - The Thomas baseball team dropped a pair of games to Lawrence University on Saturday, falling 8-7 in come-from-behind fashion in game one of the doubleheader before going down 7-4 in game two.
GAME ONE RECAP
Despite building a 5-0 lead through four innings, the Terriers could not hang on late as they fell 8-7 in game one of a doubleheader to Lawrence on Saturday.
Thomas had a 6-5 lead going into the eighth inning, but a three-run top of the eighth by the Vikings put them over the top.
The Terriers threatened to rally in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to plate the tying run. Thomas outhit the Vikings 14 to 8 on the game, as Anree Benitez, Derek Kane, Ryder Kenney, Christopher Esquivel and Beau Ewton all recorded multi-hit games.
Rob Casarez got the start on the mound and did not allow a hit over his five innings of work, striking out two.
GAME TWO RECAP
In game two of the doubleheader, the Terriers were defeated 7-4 by the Vikings despite outhitting them for the second consecutive game.
Thomas collected 14 hits to eight for Lawrence, but were undone by five errors in the field that led to four unearned runs.
Matt Rutherford was a bright spot on the mound, as he went a solid five innings and struck out five Viking batters.
Derek Kane and Alex Curtis each went for three hits and Micahel De Los Santos had two as each also batted in one runner. Kane went an impressive 5 for 7 over the two games, drawing four walks, scoring two runs and batting in one.
Thomas will have Sunday off before beginning North Atlantic Conference play in Florida as they take on the Castleton State Spartans for doubleheaders on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31.
