BANGOR, ME – Thomas College baseball (3-10, 2-0 NAC) was able to pick up two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victories over Lyndon State College (0-5, 0-4 NAC), sweeping both games of the twinbill that was played at Husson University on Saturday evening.
Thomas broke the scoreless tie in the third inning, erupting for three runs. Nik Beeson flied out the leftfield that drove in CJ Pendleton from third, then a Tim Locke double brought in Joseph Quinlan and Anree Benitez.
The Terriers added another in the fourth on a fielder's choice to the shortstop by Ross Sanders that scored Ethan Henderson. Lyndon broke up the shutout bid in the bottom of the fifth however on a Tufo single that scored Guzman.
Thomas added another two runs in the seventh in route to a 6-1 victory.
Senior hurler James McLamb got the victory, tossing all seven innings, giving up just five hits, no earned runs, while striking out 11.
The Terriers scored first in the nightcap, driving in three runs in the top of the third. Beeson tripled to score Benitez and Nate Peasley, then Locke drove home Beeson from third on a single.
Thomas added another four runs in the sixth, with the Hornets responding with their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning.
Benitez and Peasley both had two hits and an RBI in the winning effort for the Red and Black.
Tim Locke recorded the win on the bump, going six innings, while yielding two earned runs with 13 strikeouts. Derek Kane threw a hitless seventh inning in relief, striking out two.
Thomas and Lyndon will be back at it tomorrow for another doubleheader. First pitch scheduled for 5:00 PM.
