Thomas College Athletics Celebrates Fall 2019 Academic Challenge

WATERVILLE, Maine – Each fall, the Thomas College President's Council challenges varsity athletic teams at Thomas to participate in the Academic Challenge. President's Council hosts a dinner for those teams whose term GPA is above 3.0 for the fall. The event serves as a recognition for those students who represent the College and its mission so well, and who embody the ideals of the NCAA Division III student-athlete.

This year's winners that were recognized on January 29 include the following teams with a combined team GPA above 3.0:

  • Baseball
  • Field Hockey
  • Golf
  • Men's Basketball
  • Men's Cross Country
  • Men's Indoor Track & Field
  • Men's Outdoor Track & Field
  • Men's Lacrosse
  • Men's Tennis
  • Softball
  • Women's Cross Country
  • Women's Indoor Track & Field
  • Women's Outdoor Track & Field
  • Women's Lacrosse
  • Women's Soccer
  • Women's Tennis

16 of 18 varsity teams made the list, up from 12 of 16 last year (men's and women's track & field were separated this year to indoor and outdoor to align with their status as separate NCAA sports). The award for the team with the highest team GPA for the first time was women's indoor track & field, with a team GPA of 3.64.
