19 Terriers Named to Fall 2015 NAC All-Academic Team

WHITINGHAM, Vt. --- Nineteen Thomas College student-athletes across six sports are among the 191 that have been named to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) All-Academic Team after the fall 2015 semester.

The NAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes on varsity sports teams who have earned a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Student-athletes must also have reached sophomore academic standing and competed in a minimum of two years of varsity competition at their institution.

Of note, seven of the eight seniors who were recognized as the Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in their respective sport were also honored on the All-Academic Team. Those selections include men's soccer player Stephen Berenyi (Husson), women's soccer player Alexa Jakiela (Johnson State), women's cross country runner Kateri Jeffery (Husson), men's cross country runner Steven Lamonde (Johnson State), women's volleyball player Jessica Menges (Maine Maritime), women's tennis player Sarah Smith (Husson), and field hockey player Rebecca Young (UMaine-Farmington).

New to the conference this past fall was the selection of a Sportsmanship Team which was reserved for those who positively affected the culture and environment of their sport and whose behavior clearly demonstrated sportsmanship and integrity that went beyond the playing rules and etiquette. Impressively, 29 of the Sportsmanship Team honorees were named as a member of the All-Academic Team.

Additionally, a number of this year’s All-Academic honorees also excelled athletically. The team consisted of 31 student-athletes who were voted as All-NAC selections in their respective sports, including 21 First Team and 10 Second Team selections. Also listed are Player of the Year honorees in two of the eight NAC fall sports, which included field hockey Player of the Year Taylor Bergeron (Thomas), field hockey Defensive Player of the Year Patty Smith (UMaine-Farmington), and women's soccer Player of the Year Mallory Costello (Castleton).
